Introduction to Hand tool Woodworking

In this 3 session class, learn to confidently use 10 essential hand tools while mastering the three core joints found in almost every piece of furniture.

This course is intended to get you started using hand tools, no prior woodworking experience is required. All tools and materials will be supplied.

No specific PPE is required, but please wear close-toe shoes.

Day 1: Tools & Fundamentals
Get comfortable with the basics: tool safety, what each tool does, and how to use them properly. You’ll start working on measuring and marking accurately, and leave with practical tips for purchasing and maintaining tools of your own.

We'll get started on the basics of layout, and begin planning the small box project for this class.

Day 2: Joinery Basics
Learn how to think like an old-school woodworker. We'll get more in depth on reference surfaces, and marking techniques, then move into cutting two fundamental joints: the housing dado and the mortise and tenon.

Day 3: Dovetails
Bring it all together with the classic dovetail joint. You’ll learn how to lay out, cut, and fit a dovetail, as well as how to set the plywood bottom of our box without leaving revealing slots on the outside of your piece.
